You know when you’re surfing through the channels on TV and a movie you’ve seen a thousand times sucks you in? Yeah, we’ve all had that happen. So I thought it would be fun to share some of the movies I’ve seen a thousand times, but if I catch them on the tube, I get sucked in!

1. Talladega Nights: The Ballad Ricky Bobby

#1 NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby stays  on top thanks to a pact with his best friend and teammate, Cal Naughton, Jr. But when a French Formula One driver, makes his way up the ladder, Ricky Bobby’s talent is put to the test.

Favorite quote from the movie: Ricky Bobby, Cal Naughton, Jr.“Shake and bake!”

Yes, this movie is silly, and at times even ridiculous, but who doesn’t love Will Ferrell?! Will Ferrell can make anything believable, no matter how insane. It’s a movie that allows you to relax, laugh and not have to think for a couple of hours.

2. Napoleon Dynamite

Starring Jon Heder as Napoleon

A geeky, weird and listless teenager decides to help his new friend, Pedro, win the class presidency in their small high school, while he deals, or doesn’t deal, with his bizarre family life back home.

Favorite quote from the movie:  Napoleon Dynamite: “I caught you a delicious bass.”

I own this movie and yet when I come across it playing on TV, I can’t help but stop what I’m doing, and watch. Underneath this movie really has heart. It’s strange, but that’s the genius of it. I like so-called “off” movies that are fun yet they make you cheer for the weirdness.

3. Forrest Gump

Starring Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is a simple man with a low IQ but good intentions. Forrest has one true friend from childhood, Jenny. His ‘mama’ teaches him the ways of life and leaves him to choose his destiny. Forrest joins the army for service in Vietnam and then his life takes all different directions. A lot of directions, cause the movie is long!

Favorite quote from the movie: Forrest Gump: “My Mama always said you’ve got to put the past behind you before you can move on.”

What can I say? An epic film with so much story that every time I watch it, I see something new. How many films can you truly say effect you the way Forrest Gump does? Not many. Yes, it’s 4 hours long, but it doesn’t seem like it.

4. Steel Magnolias

The movie is about a close knit group of women from a small parish in Louisiana, who go through happy events to sadness and everything in between.

Favorite quotes from the movie: Ouiser Boudreaux: “I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a very bad mood 40 years!”

Truvy: “When it comes to pain and suffering, she’s right up there with Elizabeth Taylor.”

Clairee Belcher: “The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.”

Truvy: “Louie brought his new girlfriend over, and the nicest thing I can say about her is all her tattoos are spelled correctly.”

Some call it a “chick flick,” and maybe it is, but the script and the actors are so awesome that I can’t believe anyone wouldn’t love this movie. I know what happens at the beginning, the middle and the end, and it still suprises me. It’s just about life and I think we can all relate. That’s why it works!

5. Shawshank Redemption

Favorite quotes from the movie: Andy Dufresne: “Get busy living, or get busy dying.”

This movie is at the “top of my list.” Written by Stephen King, the movie has a spectacular story and amazing performances. Tim Robbins plays  Andy Dufresne a young and successful banker whose life changes drastically when he is convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her lover. Set in the 1940′s, the movie takes you through the many years that Andy serves. Andy keeps his hope alive and gains the respect of the other inmates, especially longtime convict “Red” Redding, played by Morgan Freeman, who is quite influential within the prison. Eventually, Andrew achieves his ends on his own terms.

Again this movie makes me laugh, cry, angry, sad, lonely, quite and speechless.

Those are the movies that I watch over and over. What are the movies the movies that do it for you? Comment below.
