Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter Under Los Angeles D.A. Review for Rape Allegations
The Los Angeles County D.A. is currently reviewing the rape allegations leveled against Nick Carter and "considering whether to file charges," TMZ reports.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Melissa Schuman's case against the Backstreet Boys singer, in which she alleges that Carter raped her in 2002, was submitted to the D.A.'s office the last week of July.
A police report was filed back in February.
In November 2017, Schuman, a member of pop group Dream, wrote in a harrowing essay posted to her blog that the boy band star forced her to both receive and perform oral sex in a bathroom during a house party sixteen years ago. She also claimed that afterwards, Carter took her to a bedroom where he forced himself on her.
Following Schuman's allegations, Carter denied the story, telling TMZ he was "shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations.
"Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual...This is the first that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm," he said.
