Before I go on with this article, let me expand on the headline. No Texas county has experienced these 3 weather events within a 30-day period, until now. I didn't want to mislead anyone, but only so many words are allowed in a headline.

Now, let's talk about...

Crazy Texas Weather

It can go from balmy to snowy in just a matter of hours in Texas (as many just experienced). Tornadoes, hurricanes, record-setting heat and cold, massive hail, blizzards, droughts and floods are weather events that happen every year in the Lone Star State.

But, who had an EF3 Tornado, record-setting heat, and a blizzard for the 30-day trifecta for Jefferson County, Texas?

EF-3 Tornado Hits Southeast Texas

On December 28, severe storms moved through much of the eastern third of Texas. During that afternoon, a tornado touched down on the eastern shore of Trinity Bay.

Investigators with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles categorized the tornado as an EF3 with top winds of 161 mph. It stayed on the ground for over an hour as it passed through Chambers and then Jefferson Counties, south of Port Arthur, and eventually into Louisiana.

Record-Tying Heat in Port Arthur, Texas

On Sunday, January 5, Port Arthur reached an afternoon high of 80 degrees.

That tied the all-time record for the hottest temperature in Port Arthur for January 5. The previous 80-degree reading happened in 1927.

Blizzard Warning for Jefferson County

Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service issued a BLIZZARD WARNING for several counties in extreme southeast Texas, including Jefferson County.

Squalls of heavy snow moved through the Golden Triangle on Tuesday morning, pushing snowfall totals to a half foot or more.

A Strong tornado (EF2+), record-tying heat, and a blizzard, all in less than 30 days in Jefferson County, Texas. If you can find out where this has happened previously in Texas history, I would love to hear the details.

It's just another example of our crazy Texas weather.
