Only at Buc-ee’s: Gas Pumps Full as Tornado Roars Behind
Buc-ee's...where else under a 74,000 square foot roof will you find an oasis of clean restrooms, an assembly station of BBQ sandwiches, fountain drink heaven, and countless items that you didn't know you needed.
I didn't think I could be amazed by anything else at Buc-ee's until I saw a video from storm chaser Reed Timmer and his pursuit of tornadoes in Alabama on Tuesday, May 20.
Reed Timmer and His Dominator Vehicle
There are numerous storm chasers, but only one has the Dominator. This is a retrofitted, heavily-armored vehicle designed to withstand the full impact of an intense tornado. Not quite Glen Powell in the movie, Twisters, but something like that.
Tuesday, Timmer and his crew were in pursuit of a strong tornado in northern Alabama. He released a YouTube video capturing that chase.
I was watching that video, and then, it happened.
Only At Buc-ee's Would This Happen
The tornado was just south of Athens, Alabama, when it roared behind the Buc-ee's near Interstate 65. Look closely at this screenshot from Timmer's video.
Check out the swirling clouds and debris directly behind the store. Now, look closer at the bottom of the screenshot.
EVERY SINGLE GAS PUMP IS OCCUPIED!
Even with over 100 pumps to choose from, the lines for gas at Buc-ee's can be brutal. So...what kind of emergency would it take for someone to give up their spot for some of the Beaver's gas?
Not a tornado, apparently.

Take a look at the video beginning at the 8-minute mark, and you'll get a better look at how almost every gas pump is claimed.
Hey, Alabama! You didn't let a tornado stop you from a Buc-ee's bathroom break, some Beaver Nuggets, and a pit stop for gas.
Congratulations...you are now an honorary Texan.
