Original Cast of The Real World Reuniting for New Series

It’s time to once again stop being polite and start getting real.

The original cast of the MTV cult hit The Real World is reuniting once again for a special series. Viacom CBS is reviving The Real World for the new streaming service Paramount Plus .

The Real World Homecoming: New York, is bringing back  all seven cast members from the first season of the show. Original housemates Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi, Eric Nies and Kevin Powell will reunite in the same loft in SoHo the show was filmed in back in 1992.

The Real World, which ran until 2017, was the worlds first dose of reality tv. It gave viewers a chance to see a glimpse into the lives of a group of diverse individuals forced to live together.  As a avid viewer and bifan, like many, loved how the show tackled important topics of the time not heavily discussed on television like HIV/AIDS, Race, Gender, Orientation and Religion. It was the first to venture into that uncharted territory or reality. 

The reunion series will be part of the March 4 launch of the new Paramount Plus service, which is a rebrand of existing streamer CBS All Access. “With Paramount+ being the home to so many global reality hit franchises, it seems only fitting to bring back the franchise and cast that started it all,” said Chris McCarthy, president of MTV Entertainment Group.

The last new season to debut of the once popular franchise was The Real World: Atlanta that premiered on Facebook Watch in the summer of 2019. That installment failed to generate any real interest, but hopefully The Real World Homecoming: New York will bring back that great reality tv vibe the show once had.
