Pennies for Penney — Benefit Concert Set for East Texan Battling Rare Form of Cancer
A friend recently reached out to me from my hometown of White Oak, and graciously asked if I could spread the word about an event they were hosting to raise funds for a resident of White Oak who is battling with a rare form of cancer.
A benefit concert, Pennies for Penney, has been pulled together with live entertainment by Sons of the Republic, a hamburger dinner and silent auction from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. on Saturday August 24th, at the Reserve in Longview. Donations of $30.00 per person will graciously be accepted on Penney's behalf for admittance.
From the Facebook event page:
Penney Reeves has been a resident of White Oak all of her 45 years. She is married to Doyle "Bubba" Reeves and has two children, Gunnar (18) and Reagan (10). Penney has always volunteered in her community and school to give to those who needed or deserved a little extra. She has participated in fundraisers to benefit scholarships for high school seniors, technology for classrooms and numerous other causes.
Unfortunately, on May 2, 2013 she was diagnosed with Renal Cortex cancer. This is a rare form of cancer with limited amount of research. Sadly the cancer has already spread to multiple organs and there is no option for surgery at this point.
Penney has begun the long and tedious process of chemotherapy at UT Southwestern in Dallas on May 22. The outlook at this point is dependent on her reaction to the medicine and as we all know cancer does not fight fair!
This is totally unacceptable. Penney has given to so many and deserves a fighting chance. The financial burden on this family will be tremendous, and with your generous donation/support we can ease this portion of their battle.
