It's a sad fact of life that senior pets are more likely the last to be adopted from a shelter. These loving animals, despite their age, can be just as loving and loyal as any younger animal in the shelter. November is National Senior Pet Month which is a great time to remind you of the benefits of adopting an older pet.

Benefits of Adopting an Older Pet

Throughout November, the Humane Society's Pets Fur People in Tyler will be showcasing and featuring older animals that are available for adoption. Adopting an older pet means you don't have to go through the chewing stage that younger dogs go through. They can also be just as playful as their younger counterparts and have just as much unconditional love to give to you and your family.

Meet Bella. Bella is a 9-year-old Labrador Retriever mix currently looking for a new permanent home and is eager to move out of the shelter setting at Pets Fur People.

After being adopted seven years ago, Bella's home life changed and she was surrendered back into the care of Pet Fur People through no fault of her own. She is fond of cats and enjoys other dogs.

Bella would best be suited for an older family because of her size, she could be a bit big to be around toddlers.

She will go home with a starter kit including food, a collar, and a leash.

For additional information on adopting Bella call 903-597-2471 or check the Humane Society’s Pets Fur People. Pets Fur People requires a completed adoption application before arranging a meet and greet. Check out the animals that are available for adoption.

Adoption hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 am until 5 pm - closed for lunch 1-2 pm. The Humane Society’s Pets Fur People is the only brick-and-mortar no-kill shelter in East Texas. Pets Fur People offers routine vaccinations, except for rabies, to the public for dogs and cats. Follow Pets Fur People on Facebook, X, and Instagram. Please be a responsible pet owner - spay or neuter your pets. Donations are appreciated.
