It was a record-setting day in parts of East Texas both Tuesday and Wednesday as we saw the coldest air of the season move in.

Tuesday’s high in Tyler was 42 degrees, and 41 degrees in Longview. For Longview, it’s a new record. It’s the daily record for the lowest high temperature. The old record was 42 degrees from 1907. Tyler was close but didn’t quite get there. The record for the lowest high temperature on November 11 is still safe at 41 degrees, set back in 1907.

We also saw a record low set in Longview as well. This was for Wednesday. The previous low record was 22 degrees set back in 1907. Wednesday morning the low was 20 degrees, establishing the new record. Tyler was close but didn’t quite get there. The record low for Wednesday is 21 degrees set back in 1907, but we only dropped to 22 degrees Wednesday morning.

This blast of winter-like temperatures is well below the normal high for this time of the year. We should be seeing highs around 67 degrees this time of the year. It’s all due to a strong cold front that moved through. That cold front also brought record cold and record snow to parts of the Midwest.

From here, long-range outlooks indicate we’ll likely see some warmer than normal temperatures return. The outlook for December and January indicates that we have a 40 to 50 percent chance to see above-normal temperatures.
