The City Of Tyler Urges Residents To Report Any Storm Damage

Tyler and Smith County residents, along with thousands of East Texans, will be talking about the severe thunderstorm that rolled through the area Monday night (June 3rd) for a while. Many residents experienced a storm like they'd never experienced before.

The Tyler area received some pretty destructive wind gusts. During the height of the storm wind gusts were being recorded at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport as high as 70 to 80 miles per hour. Those powerful winds brought down trees and power lines and knocked out power to more than 90,000 customers in East Texas.

With so much damage across the city and region, it is going to take quite a while to clean up the debris. Residents had already been cleaning up and cutting up trees that had fallen from previous storms over the past couple of weeks and they're doing it again today.

The City of Tyler urges residents to report property damage immediately

Residents are asked to report damage to the Texas Division of Emergency Management using the iSTAT Damage Surveys online portal. There is a tutorial available for those who are unfamiliar with how to use it and report damage.

The City of Tyler continues to work with city crews and volunteer organizations to clear more than 200 reported down trees across roadways in public areas.

The Tyler Solid Waste Department is assisting city crews with clean-up efforts and trash pick-up service throughout the city has been suspended and will resume Thursday.

Tyler residents may schedule special storm debris-related pick-ups through the Bulky Items and Special Pick-Ups feature on the city website. Residents are asked to bundle the limbs that are less than four feet and 50 pounds together, and they will be picked up free of charge. Anything larger will have to pay a fee depending on size and weight, starting at $20.

Essential city services continue to operate normally.

Oncor crews are working diligently to restore power to the areas that were hit the hardest. If you lose power you are encouraged to call and report that outage to Oncor at 1-888-313-4747.

It is going to be hot and humid for those without power, for those looking to cool off or for a way to recharge those important electronic devices, the city is opening up the following facilities:

• Tyler Public Library is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
• Tyler Senior Center is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Glass Recreation Center starting Wednesday, June 5, is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

While cleaning up your property, if you encounter a downed power line, treat it as a live line. Do not touch it. Do not attempt to move it. Do not disturb it, call Oncor and report it.
