East Texas Law Enforcement Arrests 29 On Felony Charges
This past weekend thousands of East Texans were cheering on their favorite NFL team to win Super Bowl LIX. While cheering on the Chiefs or Eagles, they watched some funny commercials, snacked, and had a few drinks.
It's NEVER a good idea to drive after you've been drinking at a party, restaurant, or by yourself at home, yet hundreds of people do it every day putting their lives and other innocent lives on the road at risk.
Thankfully East Texas law enforcement caught many of those who made that horrible decision and got them off the road and now they are facing a lengthy and quite costly experience through the court system.
During the Super Bowl weekend Smith County Sheriff Deputies, local police departments along with Texas DPS and Game wardens arrested nearly 90 individuals for various reasons and 29 of them are now facing at least one felony charge.
Among the felony charges some of these individuals are facing are:
- theft greater than $30,000
- driving while intoxicated X3 or more
- possession of a controlled substance
- assault of a pregnant person
- aggravated kidnapping
- indecency with a child sexual contact
- theft of a firearm
While I know nothing about these cases or the circumstances surrounding them, however, in most cases, I believe taking a step back or removing themselves from certain situations could definitely have changed the outcome and they would not have had their mugshot taken and now being accused of a crime.
DWI is easily rectified. If you plan on drinking at a gathering, restaurant, or wherever, YOU CAN make arrangements for a safe ride home. There are just too many options for that. You can call a taxi, if you're in Tyler, call the microtransit bus, Uber, Lyft, and other ride-share services are an option. There are so many alternatives these days.
