According to Yahoo Finance, many people moved to the Lone Star State during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and now many say they regret it.

Several factors go into it. Many newcomers came from California and New York, seeking less regulation on COVID-19 protocols. Others were drawn to Texas because of the lower cost of housing compared to the areas they came from.

However, even with those benefits, the newcomers have unexpectedly found some things in Texas they don't like.

Property Taxes:
Even though many came from areas with a state income tax, their property taxes were lower.

Housing Costs:
Yes, they could purchase housing that was more than they had in other states at a lower cost, but now housing prices have risen to higher prices, making it less appealing to buy another home.

Weather:
Texans know the state's weather challenges. It can be 98 degrees Fahrenheit; two hours later, you must wear a sweater. Hot temperatures blanket the state for about six months out of the year. Texas also has its share of winter weather, plus tornados and hurricanes.

Culture Wars:

Texas is a conservative state, especially politically. Many newcomers come from less conservative states, and it is hard for them to adjust. Culturally, Texas is different.

Employment Realities:

Many newcomers are surprised by the lack of high-paying job opportunities. When they do find them, many people are trying to get them.

Education:

While there are good school districts, there are also underfunded areas in which they are not happy with the school district.

Many have chosen to stay in Texas but regret moving to the state.
