Texas Representative Fights Back Against State’s Proposed THC Ban
The battle over THC and marijuana in Texas has ramped up in 2025. Multiple bills have been introduced dealing with cannabis, hemp, and THC. The one that has garnered the most attention is the bill in the Texas Senate that would ban all THC products in the state. However, a bill introduced in the Texas House of Representatives wants a different approach.
The Battle Over THC In Texas Heats Up With HB 28
There's a very good chance that in 2025 we will see some changes in the way that Texas approaches cannabis and THC. Multiple bills have been introduced tackling everything from recreational legalization to an outright ban on all products containing THC.

The ban on all THC products sent shockwaves through the state. The first question on everyone's mind was what would happen to all of the businesses, employees, and business owners selling legal (for now) products in Texas. This bill was introduced in the Senate and had the backing of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
One Texas State Representative has put forward a bill that would take a different approach, and it's one that people have said they would be in favor of. Instead of banning all THC products, this bill would set up tighter regulations.
HB 28, Regulation Instead Of Prohibition Of THC In Texas
The bill, HB 28, was introduced by the Texas panhandle's own Ken King (R-Canadian). State Representative King's bill would increase requirements for a manufacturer's and distributor's license, increase testing of products, and introduce criminal penalties for false advertising and marketing of these products to anyone under 21.

A lot of people would have an easier time being on board with a piece of legislation like this rather than a blanket ban on products and distributors not part of the Texas Compassionate Use Program. We've seen this play out in the recent hearings about Senate Bill 3, which is the bill that would ban all THC products.
The future of cannabis and THC in Texas is still one that is hotly debated, at least in the state capital. A recent survey in Texas found that 62% of Texans are in favor of the sale and use of marijuana.
