Exiting A Sam’s Club In Texas Is About To Get A Bit Faster
Exiting a Sam's Club in Texas is about to get a bit faster because the exit greeters will no longer be required to scan your receipt against items in your cart before leaving the store.
Going to Sam's Club in Tyler, Texas seems to be a twice-a-month activity (at least) for my wife and me. The self-checkouts have sped up the checkout process in most cases, but the long line to have your receipt scanned to exit the store remains.
Thanks to the new scanning AI technology, exit greeters will no longer be scanning your receipt at the exit.
About a month ago I noticed that Sam's Club in Tyler had installed two towers that arch over the exit lines. These towers are outfitted with cameras mounted on the inside and top looking down on carts and customers.
New technology was revealed at CES 2024 in Las Vegas this week.
A Walmart press release states that this new AI technology will improve their guest's experience. Once
a member completes payment at the register or via Scan & Go, a combination of computer vision and digital technology deployed in the exit area of the club captures images of carts and verifies payment for all items within a member's basket.'"I welcome this and can't wait until the system is fired up and running at the Sam's Club in Tyler, because the line to exit the store can be quite long and slow sometimes.
This technology is currently being tested in 10 stores and has received great praise. Sam's Club plans to have this new AI technology in the exit areas of all its 600 stores by the end of the year. It looks like Tyler will be getting it sooner because it's already in place.
This isn't the end of the exit greeters, they will still be there ensuring the exit process is going smoothly.
