Many people in the Amarillo Area and all over the Texas Panhandle, celebrate Labor Day with friends.  They fire up the grills and crack open some cold ones or meet at a local bar.  It's a holiday to kick back, relax, and enjoy your weekend or day off.

It's great to enjoy that time with an adult beverage, however, what isn't great is driving after you have been drinking.

Did You Know That

  • One person is killed every eight hours in alcohol-related traffic crashes in Texas.
  • Last Labor Day weekend, 14 people died from alcohol-related accidents in Texas.
  • Over those three days, there were 334 alcohol-related traffic crashes.

The thing about alcohol-related deaths and crashes.  They could all be prevented.  Every single one of them.  However, this only happens when people stop getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking.

Once again the Texas Department of Transportation is teaming up with our local law enforcement to help end alcohol-related crashes and deaths.  From now through September 2nd, you will start to notice more police officers making the effort to identify and arrest drunk drivers.

If you are planning on drinking while celebrating at a BBQ, party, or bar over the Labor Day holiday, make sure you have a designated driver or use a ride-share to get you to and from your destination. The last thing you want to do is destroy your life and the life of another because you chose to drive drunk.

The average cost of a DUI in Texas is $17,000.

But if you injure or kill someone while you are driving under the influence, life will never be the same ever again for anyone involved.

Drinking and driving is not worth it.
