UAW Strike Update: GM Walkout Happening at Texas Plant

SHREVEPORT, LA - The strike by the United Auto Workers (UAW) is expanding again today. KEEL News has learned workers at the Arlington, Texas plant have just been notified they are on strike.

That message went out to all plant workers in Arlington just after 9am Tuesday morning. This Texas plant makes some of the most popular vehicles in the General Motors line. This is GM's large SUV plant. They build the Cadillac Escalade and Chevrolet Suburban.

UAW President Shawn Fain previously said "our strike is working, but we're not there yet." This is apparently another attempt to put pressure on the three big U.S. automakers, GM, Ford and Stellantis to reach an agreement with the union.

Earlier this week, the strike expanded to a Dodge truck facility in Michigan and now the Texas plant is among the facilities out on strike.

The strike began September 14th when workers walked off the job at three plants. It has since grown to include eight plants and dozens of parts distribution centers in more than 20 states.

More than 30,000 UAW workers are currently out on strike.

The UAW wants a 36% pay increase and regular cost of living adjustments to protect workers against inflation.
