Unique Boutique Hotel to Offer New Life to the Square in Tyler

What if Downtown Tyler finally had a boutique hotel once again?

Where would it go and who would stay there?

Are your wheels turning? Mine are. I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. As a former board member and President of the Heart of Tyler, I’ve been wishing, hoping, thinking and praying for a boutique hotel in Downtown for years.

Now, it looks like it’s finally coming to fruition thanks to Andrew and Grace Cryer. The Thomas Hotel is going up on the square, and named for family members including Grace’s great-grandfather, Thomas Boyyd Ramey, the founder of the Texas Rose Festival.

The Grand Opening is set for early may, which should bode well for those in town for the Red Dirt BBQ and Music Festival. As you can imagine this could be a great place for tourists to stay during the event held in Downtown, but also for other Tyler events.

I have no doubt that it will be booked solid during October for the Texas Rose Festival and most likely filled during the Spring. As travelers flock to visit the beautiful Azalea and Spring Flower trails on the brick streets of Tyler.

Another Boutique hotel is also in the works and set for an opening a little later. According to Andy Bergfeld in a KLTV report, the Old Greyhound Bus station is also set to transform into a boutique hotel.

Bergfeld told KLTV, “We started looking at what we needed down here,” he said. Bergfeld Realty has developed a few projects downtown. “We’ve added the retail component there in Plaza Tower, we added Prime 102 in People’s Petroleum with Chick-Fil-A pop-up shop.”
