Kilgore's Derrick Fest And 7 Other East Texas Weekend Activities

East Texas has experienced quite a few spring storms along with some summer-like temperatures and now those summer-like temperatures can officially be called summer temps because summer is officially here. This will be your first full weekend of summer.

Arriving Thursday at 3:51 p.m. and marking the longest day of sunlight in the northern hemisphere, summer is here and will be and we know it'll get hotter and more humid. It's a fact of life for us East Texans, but we adapt, carry on, and crank the AC as much as we can.

With no chance of rain in the immediate forecast and temperatures expected to hover in the mid to upper 90s we'll be hitting the splash pads, pools, and lakes this weekend. Just remember to wear your sunscreen and protect your skin.

Summer Cruise Night

Come join Speed Needs and ETAB for the first Cruise Night of the Summer! Food drinks and more on site. Bounce house for the kids and music for the whole family. Come show off your car truck or bike. If you don't have one just come down and enjoy the festivities and cool rides!

Big Ross: A Wetland-Inspired Painting Workshop

Join us at the East Texas Arboretum in Athens to create your very own landscape painting inspired by our bog. A short nature hike of about half a mile will take us through the forest into our Bog Overlook. Check-in at the office, and the group will depart for the trailhead together. Bring yourself and a reusable water bottle! Please wear hiking-appropriate clothes and footwear. Bug repellent is highly recommended. All painting supplies will be provided. This is a ticketed event.

Twenty vendors selling their art and jewelry, food truck, face/body painting by Amanda Duncan, raffle tickets for art by Amy Duquette, Live painting by Doug Carter - his painting will be raffled, music from Amy's turntable so bring your favorite vinyl record if you want it played. This is a free event and 10% of all sales and 100% of raffle ticket purchases will go to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
