Where Texas Ranks Among the Most Haunted States
Texas is a very large state, so it stands to reason that it would be one of the most haunted states. But just how haunted is the Lone Star State?
I’ve always had an obsession with the paranormal. But to be perfectly honest with you, I was skeptical about the existence of ghosts.
And then I moved into what has to be one of the most haunted houses in North Texas.
It took about two months of living there to convince me that ghosts are very real. My roommates and I all heard the same things at different times: a hammering sound, a little girl talking, and soulful singing, among other random things.
About that soulful singing we heard. It sounded like someone passionately belting out a church hymn. Did I mention the house used to be a church? Yeah, I get chills just thinking about it.
But don’t take my word for it. Go pay a visit to one of the many haunted spots in Texas and see (or hear) for yourself. You haven’t shouldn’t have to travel far to find one.
A study by the Airport Parking Reservations team at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport did some digging and found Texas has a whopping 922 reported haunted locations reported by Ghost Quest.
Here are the key findings of the study:
- Haunted house and ghost conversations online: 261,000
- Haunted house searches per year: 486,000
- Ghost searches per year: 726,000
- Ghost Hunters or Ghost Adventures episodes filmed: 8
- Haunted locations reported by Ghost Quest: 922
- Most haunted state score: 57.9
Overall, the Lone Star State was ranked the 5th most haunted state in the U.S. in the study. However, if we’re just looking at the number of haunted locations, Texas is 2nd behind California, which has 1351 haunted locations.
