Whitehouse Native Pat Mahomes Sets NFL Record

Pat Mahomes was the back up to Alex Smith in Kansas City as a rookie last year. After Smith was traded to the Washington Redskins in the off season, Mahomes became the starter. Having that year to sit and learn is showing signs of paying off as Mahomes is lighting up the NFL through week two. Record setting as a matter of fact.

Mahomes has beaten the Los Angeles Chargers (four touchdowns) and Pittsburgh Steelers (six touchdowns) to set an NFL record of ten touchdowns in his first 3 starts according to ESPN. The previous record was eight set by former Washington Redskins quarterback Mark Rypien and current Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Mahomes said in his postgame press conference, "You never expect to have 10 touchdowns at this point in the season. But I knew what this offense with the weapons we had and the scheme Coach Reid is drawing up that we had a chance to be really, really good. The possibilities are endless."

His Chiefs teammates have talked highly of him, too.

Receiver Chris Conley said this Sunday, "I don't think that you could expect more from anyone. Pat's come here and handled himself extremely well. The level of confidence and poise that this kid has ... I haven't seen it anywhere. He's continued to go in, learn and get better every day and then come out on the field and execute."

Veteran tight end Travis Kelce said, "I see Pat doing this all season long. He's got the confidence, and as long as we give him time and get open as wideouts, tight ends and running backs, he's going to get the best of everyone."
