Justin Bieber surprised Ellen DeGeneres -- and Beliebers! -- when he appeared on her talk show in an episode that airs today (Jan. 29).

While the Biebs greeted the birthday girl with a hug, kiss, flowers and Calvin Kleins (you know, the usual birthday fare) he appeared more subdued than usual, humbled -- and, admittedly, nervous -- for the opportunity to be on the talk show.

"Honestly, I haven't been on TV for a while, so I'm a little bit nervous," he quietly revealed. "I just get nervous in front of crowds when I'm not singing. I'm naturally a performer, but to sit down and be on camera and say things…"

As jittery as he may be on television, that's not stopping him from being roasted on Comedy Central -- an idea that was his suggestion in the first place.

"I think it's just cool to be able to laugh at yourself," he explained. "I've done some things that may not be the greatest. I just want to be able to laugh about it and just own up to some of these things."

One of the most striking things about the clip (which you can check out above) is the 'Home to Mama' singer's attitude: He is poised, mature, and overall, clearly humbled. The Biebs -- who later released a heartfelt video to fans about his past behavior -- has come to the realization that his actions over this past year haven't been some of his best moments, and he is making a clear change to own up his mistakes and change his attitude going forward. We cannot commend him enough.
