Veterans Day is coming up on Wednesday and East Texans will be celebrating early with events all across East Texas, including in Bullard and Longview.

Veterans Day began as Armistice Day, a day to honor fallen soldiers during World War I, now we recognize those who have served and those who are currently serving. I see it as a day to show gratitude.

Today is the day we say thanks to those in the military that have served our nation, fought in its wars to help protect our freedoms and our way of life. To all of those that have served, I say 'THANK YOU'. If it were not for you standing up, being sworn in and fighting for us all, our life could be a lot different.

For the past 30 years Longview ISD has honored veterans and active military members with a special ceremony and the tradition will continue Saturday evening with a special event at Lobo Stadium. The event will feature marching band along with a fireworks show.
