Vote Allows Cyclists to Use Only a Portion of Loop 49 [UPDATED]
A vote today decided that bicyclists will only be allowed to use a portion of Loop 49 rather than the entire stretch of highway.
The controversial issue was discussed and voted on at today’s meeting of the Northeast Texas Regional Mobility Authority. Earlier this year the issue to ban bicyclists was tabled.
Bicyclists will only be allowed to use Loop 49 from Highway 110 to Highway 155. The vote was decided by a 7-2 margin.
The final stretch of Loop 49 connecting Interstate 20 is expected to open Thursday evening. The last leg of the toll road will allow motorists to travel from I-20 to Highway 110 near Whitehouse. The Loop 49 project began in 2003.
