1980s Wrestling Legend Kevin Von Erich Will Appear In Dallas
As a young teenager growing up in a suburb of Dallas, Texas, my brother and I used to watch local wrestling on Channel 11 on Friday nights from the Sportatorium. Now I wasn't the biggest wrestling fanatic, but I was entertained and recognized some of the big names. One of the wrestlers that were featured in the ring actually lived two streets over from us. Of all the names from that era, one of the biggest from the North Texas area was Von Erich.
The Von Erichs were six brothers who fought in the ring at one time or another and they all came from a family that had a long history with wrestling. Tragically of the six brothers, Kevin Von Erich is the only surviving member of the WWE Hall of Fame family. Kevin Von Erich is about to make his first public appearance in more than twenty years. He will be talking about his colorful wrestling career and his family.
The one-time event will take place at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas and will be hosted by well-known Dallas sportscaster Dale Hansen, who retired from WFAA in September 2021. Entitled 'An Evening With Kevin Von Erich: Stories From The Top Rope', Kevin, whose real name is Kevin Adkisson, will talk be talking about his career, triumphs, and tragedies. He says in a statement to WFAA,
I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be doing this show, to get back to Texas and see everyone who has been so loyal for more than forty years. We’ve got some great stories to tell and having Dale Hansen up there with me… it will be just like a Friday night at Sportatorium."
Tickets for the one-time event are now on sale. This special event is also being filmed for a movie called "The Iron Claw", which is now in production. The movie will focus on the Von Erich brothers, their careers, and their ultimate downfall. No release date has been announced for the film.
