Really? 666?

Couldn't someone in the Texas Legislature have authored one more bill?  I don't care what it was, something meaningless or something that wouldn't make much of an impact.

When bass fishing on Tuesdays on Texas lakes that start with the letter Z, you may only use Palomar knots on your hooks. Or maybe STAAR testing is illegal on days that end in 'Y'.

Just something that would get us to a total of 667 new laws.  Well, all 'beastly' references aside, I'm going to highlight a few of those new laws that seem to be getting the most attention.

House Bill 1927 - The Constitutional Carry Bill

If you're a Texan who is 21 years of age or older, you will now be able to carry a handgun without a license. You no longer need to get a state-issued license in order to carry a handgun in public. Pistols can be carried openly or concealed, as long as individuals are not prohibited from possessing a firearm. Although receiving training is no longer required, most experts agree that taking firearm training is an excellent choice to make.  You'll be safer, have a better idea of what to do if confronted, and avoid situations that may get you in trouble with the law.

Senate Bill 8 - The Heartbeat Bill

This new law is probably the most polarizing of them all.  Abortions are banned after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, no matter what the situations are surrounding the pregnancy, such as rape or incest.  A physician is allowed to perform an abortion if it is deemed a medical emergency.  Lawsuits may also be brought against those who may have assisted someone in obtaining an abortion.

House Bill 1518 - Sunday Beer and Wine Sales

This law has also been generating a lot of widespread commentary.  Didn't like waiting until the afternoon to buy beer or wine on Sundays?  Well, now you can buy your favorite brew or merlot at 10 a.m.

There are numerous other laws out of the 666 that have been catching the attention of many Texans.

If you'd like to take a look at all 666, here's the link to do just that.  Happy reading.
