It happens to me twice a year, a routine visit to the doctors office just to make sure my medication is doing what it's supposed to be doing and good news from this visit, everything is ok, but here's where I have an issue with the doctor's office. It seems that my time isn't as valuable as the doctors' time.

Now the reason for me saying this is because I have to wait so long to see the doctor even when I have an appointment scheduled. See, my appointment was for three o'clock yesterday afternoon, I arrived the customary 10 minutes early and I was called back to the exam room right at three (as I expected), but here's where the wait began. Once the nurse took my blood pressure (which was normal because of my medication) she left and I was left alone in this 8'x8' room for a long while.

Now, when I was in the room I could hear the doctor walk by the door several times, only to go into another room, I could hear the nurses talking about their voice mail messages, what they had for lunch and what they were getting their kids for Christmas and more. But I sat in that room and getting a bit impatient because I was in there for 30 minutes! Just sitting there. Now, I know things come up and throw off a schedule, but this is routine. Finally the doctor came in to go over some blood work results and he was there for 3 minutes and said all is ok and we'll see you in six months.

Really? It was good to know that everything was good on the blood work, but couldn't you tell me that over the phone instead of having me wait around for 30 minutes to hear you say, "Everything looked good and we'll see you in 6 months."

It's just the principle that I had an appointment at three o'clock and was expecting the doctor to hold up to that time, but this is pretty routine, so I'm growing to expect it.

Does this type of thing happen to you at the doctor's office? After coming back to work and telling a co-worker what happened, she told me that one time she waited to see her doctor for two hours for a scheduled appointment and then made it a point to stay to see him and he showed up two hours and forty minutes later. When he arrived she demanded her charts, all her information for the doctor and fired him in his own office!

So what's the longest time you've waited to see a doctor after having a scheduled appointment? Let me know in the comment section below.

It kinda reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Jerry makes a reservation for a mid-sized rental car.
