Texas Grocery Stores Recall Tuna Over Botulism Risk
Texans need to check their pantries for cans of recalled tuna that have been sold at H-E-B, Kroger, Walmart, at Trader Joe's.
Retailers across the nation are voluntarilly recalling canned tuna due to the potential of a fatal form of food poisoning.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration released a statement from the manufacturer of the canned tuna, Tri-Union Seafoods. The company states they are volutarily recalling canned tuna products that were packaged under several different brand names.
Reason for the canned tuna recall
The announcement states the supplier notified Tri-Union Seafoods that the 'easy open' pull tab can lid on some canned tuna products encountered a manufacturing defect and that defect may compromise the integrity of the product seal over time. The seal could leak or be contaminated with clostridium botulinum, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.

Thankfully no illnesses or deaths have been associated with this recall. However, consumers across Texas and the US are encouraged not to use the product even if it does not smell or look spoiled. They are asking consumers to throw the product out or return it to the point of purchase for a refund.
