Last week our family vacation started in Colorado Springs at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. Once we checked out all the animals, pet the elephants and fed the giraffes we got back on the road and headed south on I-25 to Creede, CO but we had to stop at Arby's for a quick bite to eat. Before we left the Arby's one of the workers was cleaning the tables around us and noticed the shirt I was wearing and inquired about it. I was wearing a station branded t-shirt with the Mix 93-1 logo on it and she said, "I know that station, it's in Tyler, Texas right?"

My reply to her was, "Yes!"

She then said she was from Palestine and started talking about the station which led me to reveal to her who I was! Once I told her I was Lucky Larry from the station she really couldn't believe it! She mentioned she moved to Colorado Springs this past May to be closer to her new grandchildren. We continued talking for a while and as much as she liked her new transplanted life in Colorado Springs, she did miss the friendliness of her fellow Texans!

Having experienced this on the first day of vacation was awesome and it showed to me that no matter where you go, the world is a small place. However, this wasn't the only experience I had while in Colorado.

Our second day we were on US Forest Service Road 523 exploring the Colorado Rockies in the San Juan National Forest west of Creede, CO looking for this waterfall my wife saw in a local tourism brouchure. Where we were exploring was remote and far, far off any beaten path on a basically one to a one-and-a-half lane mountain road. We came around a bend in the road where we were met by a Ford truck. We were both going pretty slow and gave each other enough room to pass (without falling off the mountain side), but what I noticed was really cool - this was new Ford truck with the plastic dealer logo on the front displaying the logo of Tyler Ford! In the middle of the mountains with civilization a long way away was someone else from East Texas!

Then on our fourth day after doing the tourist Bachelor Loop sight seeing trail around Creede, CO, we were visiting the mine museum and underground firehouse and ran into a couple from the Gladewater area. They however were busy with their two small girls so we didn't talk, but I knew where they were from by the McKaig Chevy dealer sticker on their vehicle!

So to me, it seems that no matter where you go in this world, you'll always run into someone you know or run into someone from your part of the woods proving that the world is really a small place.
