10 Celebrity Moms We Wish We Had
We would never trade our mothers for any other person in the world. That’s because we love them to death, owe them big time for all the love and attention they gave us as children, and would not have become the people we are today without their care and dedication. That’s also because the laws of time, space and physics don’t allow such a thing to be done.
Of course, if such a thing could be done, we would have a hard time choosing a mother to replace the one we’ve got. The bar would have to be set pretty high just to weed out the potential candidates. These awesome celeb moms would certainly pass that bar, but not by much.
1. Faith Hill
This country superstar never seemed to let fame go to her pretty little head, even though it’s well deserved based on her charm and level of talent alone. Since she and her equally huge country superstar husband Tim McGraw produced a couple of bundles of joy of their own, they didn’t let it stop their superstar careers from slowing them down. However, unlike other superstars who (intentionally or not) have children, this superstar pair doesn’t foist them off on a high-priced nanny or boarding school while they jet around the world — Faith and Tim take their daughters with them on tour.
2. Michelle Obama
Being the First Lady of the United States may not seem like a busy job. However, if fate gave you the opportunity to be in a position to shape the face of public policy that affect your children on issues such as health and education, you would be insane not to jump at the opportunity, especially if you had young children of your own. First Lady Michelle Obama hasn’t backed away from this duty or taking care of raising her two daughters in the process. She launched a national campaign to improve children’s nutrition at home and schools despite the ridiculous opposition to discredit her efforts.
In addition, Michelle has publicly garnered support for her husband’s policies like the Pay Equity Law that could have a great effect on future women of America like her daughters Sasha and Malia. And despite all the work and traveling she does as First Lady, she still takes a great deal of time and care to make sure her daughters are raised properly, from the food they eat to what they watch on television.
3. Jada Pinkett Smith
Times have changed, especially for mothers who are now able to pursue careers and lives of their own even after they have children. Some mothers, however, choose to dedicate their lives to their children. Jada Pinkett Smith, the wife of movie and music superstar Will Smith, did the latter when her two children Jaden and Willow came into the world. She didn’t just give up a highly lucrative movie career– she gave up her shot at music stardom by quitting her band Wicked Wisdom at a time when they were being asked to open for Guns ‘n Roses. Of course, she eventually came back to acting with roles in ‘Hawthorne’ and the ‘Madagascar’ movies. It also helps that her kids became budding superstars in their own right.
4. Melinda Gates
Of course, we’re not completely above material concerns when it comes to choosing our parents. Sure we want someone who is nurturing, kind and loving, but if they’ve got a bank account that can make the Vatican jealous, they would easily jump up a few notches on our list. Mrs. Bill Gates is certainly one of those higher-ranking candidates since her husband’s Microsoft empire made them one of the richest couples in the world. But she doesn’t let that stop her from being a dedicated mother to her children.
Instead, she uses her wealth and influence not just for her own children, but for the world’s mothers and their children with her and her husband’s endless advocacy work in public health. From providing inoculations for third world nations to supporting HIV research, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has done so much for children worldwide.
5. J.K. Rowling
The creator of the insanely successful Harry Potter series is another mother with a lot of moolah. But the reason we’d pick her to be our fantasy matriarch isn’t just because of the coin she has in the bank, but what she does with it.
There was a time when the author resided on the Forbes’ list of the world’s richest billionaires, but she’s been noticeably absent from it these days. This doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that the last of the ‘Harry Potter’ movies have come and gone or even her book sales. The biggest reason is her funding of charity organizations such as One Parent Families or her own charity Lumos that helps single parent families and disadvantaged children, something Rowling knows plenty about since she was once a single mom on welfare before becoming the world’s most successful children’s author. We’d be proud to give up our gold plated ponies to be able to call her “mom.”
6. Kate Winslet
This ‘Titanic‘ actress has become a mother herself since her star-studded days in the world’s most successful and expensive chick flick. She also knows the pain and suffering that some children can face just because of the way they look, especially in a place as shallow as Hollywood. Winslet not only tries to teach her children that plastic surgery and liposuction won’t solve all of their problems, but she has tried to do the same for children everywhere through her advocacy work.
7. Gwen Stefani
Stefani may not be the rock girl she was in her No Doubt days, but her work with her children make her a rock star in our eyes. In between her work with a number of charities and on her new clothing line, she’s also actively involved in her childrens’ lives and calls them her “main gig.” She even has no problem giving her sons, Kingston and Zuma, some time in the spotlight whether it’s at one of her fashion shows or just heading out for an afternoon lunch with her kids and their grandmother.
8. Gwyneth Paltrow
When it came time for this iconic Hollywood actress to start a family of her own, the ‘Iron Man’ star could’ve hired someone to raise her kids while she jumped from set to set. Instead, Paltrow made a great personal sacrifice not just to be a good mother to her children but also a good wife to husband and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. And even when it came time to hire someone to help around the house, the job requirements she advertised for to find a nanny for her children was so high that Mary Poppins herself wouldn’t be able to meet them.
9. Angelina Jolie
This actress has become just as famous for her status as a mother and political activist as for her many movie roles. Jolie and husband Brad Pitt care for three adopted children in addition to their three biological kids. In addition to providing a very stable and steady life for her children, Jolie has gone out of her way to make sure her kids have a healthy and wholesome upbringing by giving them a bigger family. Also, if we knew we had Brad Pitt AND Angelina Jolie’s genes in our DNA strands, high school would’ve been a whole lot easier.
10. Reese Witherspoon
She might look like America’s young sweetheart, but some might be surprised to learn that this blonde beauty is actually a mother of three. In a few short years after becoming a household name with movies like ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Walk the Line,’ Witherspoon also become a mother and found herself having to adjust to a new life quicker than anyone might expect after splitting with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe. Not only did she adjust to the single mom life, but she also found herself loving it as much as her movie career telling Vogue Magazine that “being a parent to me is such a great privilege; that I get to chaperone these beautiful little souls through life.”
