Are DWI’s for Caffeine Common in Texas?
Let’s be honest, law enforcement officers in Texas are too busy to test every driver to make sure they aren’t jittery due to consuming too much caffeine.
We all know that caffeine is a stimulant, but it doesn’t cause the same level of impairment that alcohol does when it hits your blood stream.

Side Effects for Caffeine Can Lead to Bad Driving
According to The Sun, when high amounts of caffeine hit your body, it can cause a driver to show erratic behavior or become jittery behind the wheel. It can also cause anxiety and loss of focus.
If a driver is showing those signs after consuming lots of caffeine, officers could choose to charge them with reckless driving or impaired driving.

Again, caffeine is not likely to get you a DWI, but there are cases where overconsumption of caffeine could lead to difficulties driving which could lead to legal troubles.
There are thousands of fatal accidents in Texas each year, please be sure you’re doing everything possible to stay safe behind the wheel. You don’t need to become another statistic.
