East Texas Remembers George Floyd As He’s Laid To Rest

Texas native George Floyd was laid to rest yesterday in his home town of Houston and even though many of us couldn't be there in attendance the people of East Texas got together to give him a proper send off.

Gloria Washington Director of the Texas African American Museum hosted a memorial balloon release on yesterday (June 9th) at their location 3000 N. Border Ave.

In attendance was Tyler's Police Chief Jimmy Toler, elected officials Council Woman Dr. Shirley Mckellar, religious dignitaries, and citizens from Tyler gathered together to remember George Floyd who was murdered by a police officer on Monday (May 27th).

After the ceremony they all gathered in the Courtyard of the Tyler Day Academy and released the balloons and later on that night a candlelight vigil was held downtown with the Tyler NAACP and protesters on the Square.

The ceremony concluded by lighting a candle and having a moment of silence at 8:46p.m. for 8 minutes and 46 seconds the exact time it took for George Floyd to die from having a knee on his neck.
