ETMC in Tyler One of First Responders Dispatched to Texas Fertilizer Plant Explosion
More than a dozen ETMC EMS ambulances were dispatched Wednesday night to the deadly fertilizer plant explosion in the town of West, Texas located just north of Waco.
Chad Richey, Communications Manager of ETMC EMS in Tyler, said dispatchers in Tyler received the first call around 7:45 p.m. and the first ETMC EMS unit arrived on the scene with thirteen minutes followed by an additional 14 EMS ambulances, 12 from Waco and three from nearby Ellis County.
A total of 91 patients were transported by ETMC EMS to area hospitals, 14 of whom were critical.
During a briefing with the media Thursday morning, Richey added that reports indicate up to 15 people were killed in the explosion and the number is expected to go higher. Many of the deceased include first responders who were on the scene of the fire before the building exploded. There were no ETMC EMS personnel injured according to Richey.
