Green Street Monster Fest Planned For September In Downtown Longview
It's a festival that will celebrate a bridge that has a veracious appetite for big trucks!
Despite the warning devices that have been installed throughout the years, the Green Street Monster continues to devour trucks and over-height loads a few times each year in downtown Longview.
The Green Street Monster isn't an actual monster it's just a low-clearance railroad bridge that crosses over Green Street near downtown Longview and for years now the bridge has stopped many 18-wheelers, box trucks, cement trucks, and high loads right in their tracks because truck drivers did not head the warning devices that have been placed there by the city, railroad and TXDOT!
When a truck gets stuck under the bridge, Longview is talking about it. For years some residents have wanted to put up a live scoreboard letting us all know who's winning when it comes to the 11' 4" clearance and 11' 2" clearance.
Now a group of downtown Longview business owners have come together and created a very unique music festival to celebrate the Green Street Monster.
The Green Street Monster Fest
This festival will happen right in front of the Green Street bridge in downtown Longview on Saturday, September 21st.
The festival is going to feature live music, food and beverages, art, and vendors. Longview will celebrate a very unique aspect of downtown and it will be in the news for something other than devouring trucks and leaving their drivers embarrassed because they got stuck!
Festival attendees will hear live music from:
The Polyphonic Spree
Jonathan Terrell
Slow Joy
Seratones
Die Spritz
Hollow Decks
Moonkill
along with several other bands.
The festival will run 12n-10p and tickets for the festival begin around $45 and are on sale now. Proceeds from beer sales will go toward Longview's Main Street Board (Longview News Journal).
