It was a laid-back and slower weekend for a change in East Texas. Most of the big festivals and events have happened and now we're gearing up to take on the heat and humidity that the summer will bring. We got a little taste of it this weekend and we know even more unbearable temperatures and heat index values are on the way.

The majority of us were catching up on yard work, housework, hanging with friends or just being lazy, there were those in Gregg County who were busy doing other things and ended up crossing paths with a Gregg County law enforcement officer. Their actions did not go unnoticed and they ended up having some kind of conversation with an officer and in these cases, they ended up taking a trip to the Gregg County Jail.

Several individuals ended up receiving a free ride downtown, maybe a free sandwich and a new portrait for their record. The Gregg County Jail processed individuals into jail for some of the following reasons:

  • possession of a controlled substance
  • aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
  • unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon
  • theft of property valued at more than $30,000
  • assault of a peace officer or a judge
  • assault of family member impeding breath/circulation

There were no arrests for driving under the influence x3 like there have been in the past but that doesn't mean there were not any arrests for drinking and driving. There were plenty of them - either first or second-time offenders. Let's hope those charged with this wake up and realize that drinking and driving are dangerous, reckless, and completely avoidable.
