This summer, Texas will celebrate its 4th anniversary as a "2nd Amendment Sanctuary" state.

Texas, like many other states, has a long history of being pro second amendment and that's not likely to change. Governor Abbott even signed legislation declaring Texas a "2nd amendment sanctuary", pledging to ignore federal gun laws.

The lone star state is not "lone" on this either. Across the USA, 17 states, including Texas, have declared the entire state to be a 2nd amendment sanctuary and most counties throughout the USA have done the same thing. (See a map here.)

Only 8 out of the 50 United States have NO 2nd amendment sanctuary areas within them.

Is This Legal?

The short answer to this question is "it depends," with the biggest factor being how the legislation itself is worded. If a state or county's Second Amendment sanctuary legislation says (or even implies) that federal firearm laws do not apply to them, then the answer is no; federal law still applies everywhere.

Under the Tenth Amendment, however, states can legally decide not to enforce federal laws, and that's a big part of what makes Second Amendment sanctuaries work. - tacticalgear.com

2021 was a busy year, gun-wise, for Texas with a bunch of new gun friendly laws being signed by Governor Abbott. They included:

  •  HB1927 - Allowed "constitutional carry".
  • HB2622 - Made Texas a 2nd amendment sanctuary state.
  • SB19 - Government entities can't contract with businesses that are anti firearm and ammunition businesses.
  • SB550 - Allows Texans that carry to do so in the holster of their choice.

The 2nd amendment is very important for Texans. However, it's very possible Texas could follow other states and take guns away from certain law breaking citizens.
