Dogster.com just released their 2024 list of the most popular Texas dog breeds and one of those breeds was not only "created" here in Texas, it's still relatively unknown outside of Texas.
One of them, by the way, the official state dog of the lone star state.
The dogster.com top 10 Texas dog breeds list includes pups of all shapes and sizes. One of them, the official Texas state dog, has a really cool backstory. The Blue Lacy is a straight up, product of Texas.
It is said that the family used greyhound, scenthound and coyote in creating the animal. The legislature said Blue Lacys were a common fixture on ranches in the Southwest, where it was said that one such dog could do the work of five cowboys; intelligent, energetic, fast, eager to work, and easy to train and handle, Lacys herded cattle, hogs, and chickens, and also served as droving and hunting dogs. - where texasbecametexas
I have no idea what the criteria were to make the dogster top breeds 10 but ... in no particular order ... here is how they lined 'em up:
My dogs have all been mixed breed rescues because I refuse to buy dogs from pet stores or a "puppy mills" when I know the El Paso Humane Society is overcrowded. So, I can't say any of my dogs are on this list since none can really be called a purebred.
