New Low-Cost Pet Care Clinic Opens in Smith County
(Smith County, Texas) Being a pet owner can be an expensive journey, especially as your pet ages. Getting older can be costly. Just like our own medical care, veterinary care is often expensive too.
Why Affordable Pet Care Matters
As a pet owner, you should make sure they have their annual shots. Additionally, some dogs must be groomed and their nails trimmed to maintain coat and paw health. Then all pets should be spayed or neutered to help control the pet population. Some pets will develop skin conditions, cancer, experience a broken bone, or other medical conditions. Caring for your pet’s health can be costly.

New Partnership Brings Low-Cost Services
Honestly, it's hard for a lot of East Texans to afford proper veterinary care for their animals. Thanks to a new partnership between the Smith County Animal Control and the Animal Protection League (APL), affordable care for pets is coming to Smith County.
Smith County Commissioners approved the partnership for a new low-cost spay and neuter clinic in Tyler. The clinic will give Smith County residents access to vet services for their pets.
Smith County Animal Control coordinator Holli Jones tells KETK
Nowadays, it’s so expensive for any medical care for our pets. Everything has just skyrocketed, and so having a low-cost service that is easily accessible, where they can go online, they can book their appointment online, they get an email, confirming that whatever they need, vaccines, heartworm test, if they need their heartworm or their flea medication, it’s great."

What Services the Clinic Offers
The clinic will be located behind the county shelter in downtown Tyler and open each Tuesday. Low-cost vaccinations and spay and neuter services will be available, as well as other essential services.
Benefits for Pets and Adoptions
By hosting the clinics at the Smith County Animal Control shelter downtown, Jones hopes more dogs and cats will be adopted because of the increased traffic that will be stopping by the shelter.
If you need assistance with your pets' health, contact the Smith County Animal Control and inquire about the low-cost services that are available each week to Smith County residents.
