It's Time To Cool Off

Temperatures are going, up, up, up in the Lone Star State and one little switch could keep your electricity bill from following them.  You need to have your feeling ceiling fan going the proper direction for maximum efficiency.  Just flick that one little switch and stay cool.

Direction Matters

I am sitting here in front a Honeywell desk fan and I am so appreciative of the breeze. An inexpensive fan can make all the difference in the world, and the electricity involved is pennies.  Compare that with a giant HVAC cooling system and you're going of nuts to not take advantage of every fan you can.

Ceiling Fans

The problem with ceiling fans is we all tend to "set it and forget it". Sometimes we don't even get it right from day one. Other times we make assumptions based on just holding a hand under one, and that doesn't come out right. The trick is to change your ceiling fan based on the season.

The Solution

It's simple, you need to make sure your ceiling fan spins counter-clockwise in the summer. Having it spin counter-clockwise pushes air down and helps cool the room. During winter you want it pulling the air up and circulating it through the room.

No Shame

I can tell you right now, as someone who posts this reminder annually, that I forgot to change the direction for winter. This kind of mistake happens. I didn't notice a huge difference, but these days every penny counts.
