A Longview landmark will soon be serving up its final dish of gumbo, etouffee and cheese crutons on March 28.Johnny Cace's, which opened in 1949, has been serving Longview residents seafood, steak and love, one of the final ingredients that goes into every dish before the plate gets served to its faithful patrons.

The decision to close Johnny Cace's came Tuesday afternoon from owner Cathy Cace and general manager Chelsea Cace. Cathy told the Longview News-Journal:

It was with a lot of thought and a lot of prayer that we came to this decision. It was a long time in the making."

One of the big reasons for the heart-wrenching decision to close the restaurant was the passing of her husband, chef and business backbone, Gerard Cace, in addition to other factors. The restaurant got its start with only 37 seats on the corner of Tyler and Green Streets and was eventually moved to its current location on Marshall Ave. with the capacity of serving 450 patrons at once.

The next two months are going to be one big celebration, according to Chelsea, with plans to continue the traditional Valentine's Day Cupid's Delight Dinner and they'll be hosting a huge Mardi Gras celebration, too. Shortly after celebrating their 66th anniversary on March 10, Johnny Cace's final meal will be served on March 28.
