Earning the nickname the 'Green Street Monster', the bridge over Green Street in downtown Longview stopped a cement truck dead in its tracks this time.

For some reason the driver of the cement truck apparently thought his trucks' height was less than 11' 2" but found out the extremely hard way when he couldn't clear the bridge. The call came in a little before 10 a.m. to the Longview Police Department that a cement truck was stuck under the bridge in the northbound lanes. The street was blocked while operators worked on freeing the truck from under the bridge.

Of course the driver had to make the rather embarrassing call back to his boss telling him what had happened to the company truck. This is not the first time this has happened and clearly will not be the last time. The City of Longview along with TxDOT and Union Pacific have worked together to do everything they can to warn truck drivers of the low clearance that this underpass has.

Apparently the brightly covered and oversized clearance signs, flashing lights, bars hanging from poles and the low clearance signs are just not enough! This will definitely not be the last time this happens. We wrote about this last May when another truck got stuck and at the time there was a petition on Change.org asking the city to install a scoreboard of the Green Street Bridge VS Your Truck. At that time there were 661 signatures of the requested 1500, at the time of this posting there are now 1165.

It's only a matter of time before it happens again.
