Massive Manatees Mysteriously Spotted Near Texas Harbor

What's better than seeing a manatee in Texas? Seeing TWO manatees in Texas! That's right, residents in Port Mansfield, just south of Corpus Christi, were gobsmacked at the sight of these sea cows in Texas waters.

Manatee Mayhem!

First off, am I the only one who's kind of creeped out by manatees? Sure, I am well aware that they pose virtually no threat to me whatsoever, but they just float there... staring.

Not to mention the fact that Christopher Columbus claimed they were mermaids due to the striking resemblance they bear to human women... I mean, I think I can see it if I close my eyes and turn around.

Well, according to Chron, Texas resident Tricia Whitley was no stranger to seeing the occasional manatee show up to her dock in port Mansfield Harbor. The catch is that she never witnessed TWO at the same time.

Whitley stated that she noticed a large object was pushing up the water in the harbor. Upon further inspection, she noticed a flipper poking into the air. Lo and behold, there two sea cows locked their creepy, soulless eyes with Whitley.

Apparently, manatees are known to visit this area rarely for unknown reasons. They are known, however, to favor drinking from water hoses or other fresh water sources near homes. But wait! Don't go feeding these guys or giving them fresh water on purpose as that's illegal in Texas.

Are Manatees Common in Texas?

No. Weren't you paying attention? The reason why this is such a notable occurrence is because Texas coastal water is usually too cold for these mammals. They prefer the warmer Florida and Central American waters.

These algae-eating, semi-social mammals can actually live up to 65 years in captivity! Not to mention the fact that, according to NOAA, manatees are considered endangered. So, let's hope that the pair that was spotted off the Texas coast go on to live happy lives free from boat propellers...
