The Tyler Public Library will once again sponsor a class to help patrons learn how to make their own homecoming mum.

On Saturday, Sept. 3 and Saturday, Sept. 17, the Library’s youth volunteers will have supplies and helping hands to teach this popular craft. Both classes will begin at 2 p.m.

Supplies are guaranteed for anyone who registers and pays the materials fee in advance. The material fee for a mum is $20, which will cover a basic, one flower (6.5”) mum no longer than three feet. The material fee for a garter mum is $15, with a flower, garter and two feet of ribbon. Requests for additional material will increase this fee. Those who wish to participate must complete a registration form at the Library front desk, requesting up to three colors of ribbon for their project, which typically represent the school they attend. Participants are invited to bring additional decorative items to make their mum unique; check local craft stores for these items.

The deadline for registration is Thursday, Sept.1 at 6 p.m.

“Homecoming mums are a fun Texas tradition,” said Youth Services Librarian Linda Gray. “An affordable way to have a mum is to make one, and we enjoy teaching others this fun craft.”

The Library is located at 201 S. College Ave. in downtown Tyler. For more information, please call 903-593-7323, email Outreach@TylerTexas.com or visit our website at www.TylerLibrary.com.
