The Neches River Wilderness Race is coming August 4 to benefit the Trinity Valley Community College scholarship fund.

It's a fun race down the Neches River. It starts at the spillway of Lake Palestine south for 22 miles.

There are several classes available to choose from to participate in the race, set up in two major categories. Leisure Class for those that want to take their time and check out the sights of the river or Professional Class for those that want to truly race down the river.

An added challenge for the Professional Class racers, though, is that the Leisure Class racers start an hour earlier. The Professional Class racers have to navigate through the Leisure Racers as they make their way to the finish line.

The event is put on by the Neches River Runners to raise funds each year for the Trinity Valley Community College scholarship fund.
