In a couple of days Santa will be loading his sleigh and making his rounds delivering toys to everybody on Christmas day, and the North American Aerospace Defense Command or NORAD is keeping tabs on his location.

According to East Texas Matters, in what seems to be a government shutdown on the horizon a NORAD confirmed the 63-year-old tradition will continue on Christmas Eve.

How did this all come about to tracking Santa you might ask?  Well, a Sears and Roebuck and Co. advertisement made a mistake and misprinted the telephone for kids to call Santa and instead they were connected to CONAD Commander-in-Chief’s operations hotline.

Colonel Harry Shoup, the Director of Operations at that time had his staff check the radar for Santa as he made his way from the North Pole and the tradition was born.

Excited children can keep up with Santa’s progressions by calling NORADS at 877-Hi NORAD or 877-446-6723 where 1,500 volunteers are willing to help answer questions.

Make sure you leave the milk and cookies out for Santa!
