Whitehouse Alum Makes A Huge Gift To His College Alma Mater To Finish Building Football Facilities In Lubbock.

Texas Tech alum and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes returned to his alma mater Friday, August 23, 2024, a visit that included a tour of the athletic department’s new facilities and a celebration of a personal gift to help make them a reality.

Texas Tech Athletics announced Thursday that Mahomes has provided the final gift of the historic Campaign for Fearless Champions as he and his wife Brittany have dedicated $5 million towards the $242 million South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project.

In recognition of the gift, Texas Tech will name its soon-to-be-completed walkthrough area in the Womble Football Center in his name. The three-time Super Bowl champion will also be recognized by being the namesake for Texas Tech’s quarterback meeting room and the offensive coordinator’s office in the new South End Zone Building to Jones AT&T Stadium.

Mahomes’ gift pushes Texas Tech’s fundraising efforts to $115 million for the south end zone and Womble Football Center project, surpassing the athletics department’s initial goal of $100 million.

While on campus Friday, adidas and Mahomes also announced the signing of six Texas Tech student-athletes to NIL deals. The deals come just weeks after adidas and Texas Tech announced a groundbreaking 10-year partnership that made adidas the official footwear, uniform, apparel, and accessory partner of the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Micah Hudson (Football), NiJaree Canady (Softball), Jasmine Shavers (Basketball), Matthew Comegys (Golf), Sam Courtwright (Soccer) and TJ Pompey (Baseball) were welcomed with a surprise visit by Mahomes, and were gifted customized Mahomes gear.

Mahomes also made a surprise visit to the Red Raiders football team, unveiling new uniforms to the squad that will be revealed and worn later this fall.
