West winds also bring cedar pollen to our area from Central Texas. The runny noses have already begun in East Texas, after our brief winter.

How To Combat What Will Be A Very Long Pollen Season In Texas

According to Hospitality Health ER here are some ways to keep the sneezing down to a minimum.

  • Wear Sunglasses outside to prevent itchy, watery eyes.
  • Keep your windows closed.
  • Shower at night if you have been outside to get pollen off of your hair and skin.
  • Bathe pets regularly to get pollen off their fur.
  • Change your air conditioner filter more often.
  • Dust and vacuum your home after having your windows or doors open.

If you are having allergy symptoms you might need an over-the-counter antihistamine or decongestant. You could also do a nasal saline rinse after being outside to reduce the severity of the symptoms.
