Those familiar red kettles suspended from a red tripod and accompanied by a cheerful volunteer or volunteers ringing a single bell while singing a Christmas carol and wishing you a Merry Christmas will soon be greeting you as you enter your favorite grocery store or big box retailer.

Traditionally the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign kicks off during halftime of the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game, however, this year the Tyler Salvation Army is kicking off its campaign a few weeks early.

Those bells will soon be ringing Monday through Saturday and continue to ring through Christmas Eve throughout Tyler. Volunteers will be asking folks like you and me to support the mission of assisting those in need within our community when they need it the most by filling up the red kettle.

Your generous donation will support important programs like:

  • food assistance
  • shelter for those experiencing homelessness
  • emergency financial assistance
  • youth programs
  • disaster response

The Red Kettle campaign is a grass-roots volunteer effort and there is a good chance you will know or recognize someone ringing one of those bells as you go about your shopping.
