Having a cat or a dog as a pet is a life-long commitment, a commitment that pays off in more ways than you can think. They give you lots of unconditional love, and companionship when and when you don't need it and they can help keep you in shape by taking them on a walk.

It can become an issue when you can no longer take care of them. Many East Texans do the right thing and find a loving home for them or locate a shelter that can take them in and adopt them out instead of just being dropped off on a county road and expecting them to survive on their own.

Soto's owners apparently could no longer care for him so his owners abandoned him at the Humane Society's Pets Fur People in Tyler. They left him tied up at the front gate of the facility. THIS ISN'T ADVISABLE - please arrange to surrender a pet in advance.

After Soto warmed up to the staff they learned about his personality and he's apparently a big sweetheart who is also very alert to his surroundings. Soto is a three-and-a-half-year-old Boxer mix who is looking for a new family to love him.

Soto is attracted to water and acts like he could be a swimmer, so if you have a pool or a pond on your property he might often be found swimming or lounging by the pool!

Soto will go home with a starter kit of food, a collar, and a leash.

For additional information on adopting Soto call 903.597.2471 or check the Humane Society’s Pets Fur People website. Pets Fur People requires a completed adoption application before arranging a meet and greet. Check out the animals that are available for adoption. Adoption hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 am until 5 pm - closed for lunch 1-2 pm.

The Humane Society’s Pets Fur People is the only brick-and-mortar no-kill shelter in East Texas. Pets Fur People offers routine vaccinations, except for rabies, to the public for dogs and cats. Follow Pets Fur People on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Please be a responsible pet owner - spay or neuter your pets. Donations are appreciated.
