This isn't Thornton's first rodeo with Taylor Sheridan; the Academy Award winner has already been featured in the Sheridan-universe when he came out on one episode of the Yellowstone spinoff series 1883, which stars Sam Elliott.

Landman does not seem to have anything to do with the Yellowstone universe that already spawned several spinoffs. The synopsis to Landman goes, according to Deadline:

Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, Landman is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. Based on the 11-part podcast “Boomtown,” the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.

Thornton will star as Tommy Norris, a crisis manager for an oil company; Hamm will portray Monty Miller, a titan of the Texas oil industry who has a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy Norris.

Filming is underway in Fort Worth, which is where series creator Sheridan is from. And while the show may be called Yellowstone, it has some deep roots in the state of Texas! Landman will premiere on Paramount+, but no release date has been revealed.

Sheridan is a wildly successful American filmmaker and actor. He portrayed David Hale in the FX television series "Sons of Anarchy," but of course is best known as the architect of television's fastest expanding universe.

Which is one major reason for his group purchasing the massive ranch.
