Texas Hyperloop Among 10 Global Finalists for the Technology Project
For some time, I've heard naysayers chime in that the Texas Hyperloop is impossible, too expensive, never going to happen. I know this, because I am one of those negative Nancy(s).
But news broke on Thursday that Texas is among one of the top 10 regions out of hundreds of applicants to be considered for the Hyperloop One Global Project. [KVUE]
Basically, Hyperloop One, the technology company behind this idea is making their selection from this global competition based on innovation and creativity. Four of the 10 are in the United States.
- Texas Hyperloop: Dallas-Austin-San Antonio-Houston with a freight route to Laredo.
- Midwest Connect: Chicago-Columbuis-Pittsburgh
- Rocky Mountain HyperLoop: Cheyenne-Denver-Pueblo
- Miami/Orlando Hyperloop: Miami-Orlando
In a press release Hyperloop One said:
The Global Challenge became a movement of thousands of people from more than 100 countries over six continents. Like us, they believe that Hyperloop will not only solve transportation and urban development challenges within communities, it will unlock vast economic potential and transform how our cities operate and how we live.
So the next step is that Hyperloop One will be working with each winning team to make this project more feasible on all fronts - technologically, economically, analysis of routes and more.
As we've reported earlier this year, the Texas Hyperloop would theoretically be able to transport someone from Houston to Dallas in 30 minutes. Think about it... less traffic in Dallas, Austin, Houston, San Antonio... working in Houston but being able to commute from Dallas... it could really change the landscape of our day-to-day lives.

In theory, Hyperloop technology would transport someone from Austin to Dallas in less than 20 minutes by gradually accelerating pods via electric propulsion through a low-pressure tube.
The burning question I have left to ask is:
Am I allowed to bring food and beverages on?
