Over a hundred Texas museums will let active duty military members and their families in free this summer, and several East Texas museums are on the list.

Stone Fort Museum in Nacogdoches has a rich history.  It's an old fort that has never actually been a fort, but instead, it's been used as a trading post, private home, church, jail, and saloon. Active duty military can check it out for free this summer, and take the kids.

SFA says on its website that a fort that was built at the site three times, and a fort was torn down by men to be re-erected by women. Stone Fort at Stephen F. Austin is one of the places that you can just walk into and feel the history in the walls, and at the same time, you might also find a puppet show in the education room.  Everybody's happy.

Stone Fort Museum is one of 113 museums in Texas to let active military and their families in free this summer, through Labor Day, as part of the Blue Star Museum program.  It's nationwide, and that means free admission at more than 2,000 museums across the U.S.  If you plan your road trip right, you could get free admission in a new city just about every day.

Besides Stone Fort, museums in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston are participating, along with the Sam Houston Memorial Museum and The Ethician Foundation in Huntsville, Harrison County Historical Museum in Marshall, the Sam Rayburn House State Historic Site in Bonham,  and the Newton County Historial Commission in Newton.

The full list of museums in the Blue Star Program is at Arts.gov.

Two things we love  -- fun, and free.  We'll keep those ideas coming this summer.  And have a blast, military guys and gals.  You deserve it.
